Countryside Animal Hospital

It seems like we’re always looking for ways to improve our health. One of the most common things your doctor will tell you is what you’re deficient in; from vitamin D to iron, they’ve seen it all. Multivitamins are a great way that we avoid ever having to hear this. But imagine, if you have a hard time getting these nutrients, how difficult is it for your pet to get all of the nutrients they need?

A good portion of the nutrients that your pets need should be found in their food. This is one of the main reasons that the quality of food that you buy for your pet is so important. If you aren’t purchasing a quality grade of food for your pet, it’s time that you reconsider. The health benefits change drastically when you improve the quality of food your pet is intaking.

Other than quality of food, most of the nutrients your pet needs can be found in the same place we find ours, a multivitamin. There are plenty of brands that all differ in quality and what they put in their vitamins, so knowing what types of nutrients to keep an eye out for is essential.

  • Vitamin A & E
    • These vitamins will benefit any dogs that need to shed a few pounds. This is because they are great antioxidants. Along with that, vitamin A & E also benefit your furry friends eyesight, skin and help with the side effects of  aging.
  • Vitamin C
    • Similar to humans, vitamin C does a great job of boosting your pet’s immune system and helps them fight off illness.
  • Iron
    • Iron promotes healthy blood and an overall better blood flow with your pet.
  • Potassium – heart health
    • Improve your pet’s heart health when you add potassium to the list of vitamins that they’re getting. Potassium is one of the nutrients that people see deficiencies in, so it’s important to ensure your pet doesn’t have the same problem.
  • Vitamin D
    • Keep your pet’s bones and teeth strong by ensuring that the multivitamin that you use has vitamin D in it.
  • Vitamin B12
    • This vitamin is especially important for pets who are pregnant and for newborns. Vitamin B12 helps with cell growth and development, which are extremely important during these two phases.

When it comes to vitamins, we suggest following very similar steps to that of picking out the right food. Vitamins are a case by case basis in regards to what your pet is needing in regards to nourishments, so checking in with us during your next vet visit will help narrow down the vitamins you need to focus on. Once you’ve figured out the exact vitamins that you’ll need, we suggest asking us which brand you should go with. Going with that, never trust the brands that are going to save you money. While affordable prices are great, their results are lacking from those of higher quality brands.
