West Nile Virus

There has been a lot of recent coverage and concern about the West Nile Virus, and its effects on domestic animals. This virus predominantly affects horses, birds and humans.

There has been one single report of West Nile Virus affecting a dog in Chicago, but this is thought to be an isolated incident. So far, there have been no reports of further canine cases, and, to date, no reported cases of West Nile in cats.

At this time, there are no vaccines available for dogs and cats, and prevention is geared towards mosquito control and avoidance. We will continue to monitor the situation, and will certainly keep you updated on any changes or concerns.
