Usability Process | At Last ... a New Website!
You may have noticed
that the Countryside website has changed a lot since 2002 … and for
a good reason. Dr. Speights wanted her website to reflect the Countryside
"spirit" and meet the real needs of current clients and future clients
... to help them:
- Figure out
what Countryside is all about from its home page.
- Quickly get
to the information they need in 3 or fewer clicks.
- Easily read
and understand the contents of every page they see.
And luckily,
one of her current clients, Martha Roden, is a web usability specialist
who offered to take on the challenge.

Usability Process |
Martha
analyzed the existing site and then met with the Countryside
management team to share her observations about the site's
appearance, organization, and content with the team, and
then offered suggestions in the form of outlines and drawings.
After
our initial meeting, we decided to take these six steps
to convert the site into something we could really be proud
of:
-
Create a new website structure
that allowed our clients to find the information that
was most important to them, as quickly and easily as possible.
- Determine
what information was missing
and write new content.
- Decide
upon the layout and color scheme that was "easy" on the
eyes and conveyed a friendly, but professional feeling.
- Create
a "draft" version
of the new website for our staff to review.
- Review
the draft.
The staff agreed to go through every page on the entire draft
site.
- Make
all necessary revisions,
including improving the color scheme, fixing missing and broken
links, and adding new content and illustrations.

| Once
all that was done, Martha gave everything back to the management
team for final review and testing. Final revisions were made …
and voila … you see the results right here in front of your eyes!
